Lowe Boats, known for their reliable and affordable aluminum boats, had built a strong reputation among anglers and hunters.
‍
However, the brand’s creative direction had grown outdated, lacking emotional connection and distinction from competitors.
‍
Market research showed that:Users perceived the boats as functional but uninspiring.Competing brands were appealing more effectively to younger, lifestyle-driven hunters and outdoor enthusiasts.Campaign visuals no longer reflected the durability and innovation that Lowe stood for.

1. Competitive Brand Analysis
Benchmarked major competitors (Alumacraft, Tracker, G3) to identify:
-Market gaps in tone, message, and aesthetic
-Overlaps in value propositions (durability, price)
-Opportunities to differentiate through emotional storytelling

Key insight:Competing brands emphasized toughness and tradition — Lowe could win through authentic connection and modern relevance.

2. Key Insight
‍
Hunters don’t just buy boats — they buy trust.
They want to feel understood by a brand that shares their mindset, not just their market.

3. Creative Strategy
‍
Position the Roughneck as:“An affordable, long-lasting hunting companion built for real hunters who demand function, durability, and personalization.”

4. Design Execution

-Developed a visual system that merges tactical precision with organic visuals.
-Created custom camouflage-inspired layouts that highlight the Mossy Oak collaboration.
-Directed photo and video assets to emphasize real hunting environments and human connection over studio-perfect shots.

The Lowe Roughneck is a rugged, hunting-optimized jon boat designed to give users more options, durability, and customizability—without compromising affordability.
‍
As part of Brunswick’s initiative to modernize the Lowe Boats brand identity, this launch redefined what a utility hunting boat could look and feel like, through design that blends functionality, craftsmanship, and storytelling.

The Concept

Creative Concept — “Hidden in Plain Sight”

Drawing inspiration from the Roughneck’s new Mossy Oak camouflage patterns, the campaign was built around the idea of blending perfectly with nature to become a smarter hunter.

‍
The creative treatment used:
Seamless camouflage backgrounds integrated with typography
Contrasting font hierarchy to convey clarity and depth
Earth-toned, swamp-inspired palettes to reflect the natural hunting environment
Messaging centered on stealth, intelligence, and authenticity “To be the best hunter, you don’t stand out — you blend in."

This approach turned a product launch into a story of identity and belonging for the hunting community.
